Jim Zorn announced as the next head coach of the Washington Redskins

After more than 30 days of looking for a new head coach Dan Snyder has finally decided on promoting Jim Zorn, former Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach, as the new head coach of the Washington Redskins. (He recently signed on as the offensive coordinator. )

Whether Snyder wasn't able to find some one better, was deterred from the hiring Fassel from fan reaction, or was truly impressed with Zorn is unknown. What is known is that Redskins fans seem to have embraced the hire (http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?t=237810).

The official spin from the Skins is that Zorn was so impressive in interviews that they hired him as the Head Coach: http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=34376. Is it possible that Zorn, formerly a quarterbacks coach, would outperform Saunders or Williams, I think its unlikely but he has recieved high acclaim from those who have worked closely with him including the Hasselbacks. Perhaps his unorthodox teaching methods have wooed Dan Snyder:

I wish him the best of luck coaching the Redskins

Casey Bramlet is the World Bowl MVP but will he be the Redskins Number 2 QB?

Casey Bramlet has been tearing up NFL Europa the whole season, which he capped off by bringing Hamburg a World Bowl victory. "Bramlet completed 20 of 27 passes for 347 yards and a record four touchdowns. He compiled a passer rating of 155.5," (AP). With numbers like these, one wonders what is the next step for Casey Bramlet. Withthe Redskins currently overloaded at the QB position, with Jason Campbell, Mark Brunell, Todd Collins, Sam Hollenbach, and Jordan Palmer, one also wonders where Bramlet fits into the Redskins organization.

While the Redskins may entertain trade talks, look for Bramlet to attend Training Camp, and fight for the backup QB spot, against its current holder Mark Brunell. Unless Mark Brunell gets hurt (or is that stays hurt), the QB Roster will most likely be, Jason, Mark, and Casey. If Brunell does not recover from shoulder surgery this offseason we may see Jason, Collins, and Bramlet. As for my opinion, I doubt Casey Bramlet will start at the number two position, not for lack of talent, but because he has little experience in Al Saunders/Joe Gibbs offense.

Regardless, Bramlet has suddenly made preseason interesting.

Marty Schottenheimer fired.

Marty Schottenheimer was fired from the San Diego Chargers after leading the team to a league best regular season record of 14-2, and losing to the New England Patriots in the AFC playoffs. After hearing the news, I have to ask, was Danny boy (Snyder) right to fire him in the first place or did the Chargers make a huge mistake?

I think the jury is out, after seeing Peyton Manning win the Super Bowl, I think its possible for Marty to win one too. On the other hand he only seems effective when the front office has a tight leash on him and doesn't allow him to employ his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews to run the rest of the team.

Whatever the story is, I have a feeling that there's a fair amount to this iceberg that the public is not privy to.
